Discipleship is the backbone of what we exist for as a church. We desire for others to grow closer to God while building lifelong friendships. We value growing in Christ and helping others grow in Christ as well. This is why we are so intentional about discipleship. We believe intentional relationships with intentional conversations about Christ help the believer grow in his or her faith. We are commanded throughout the New Testament to make disciples (Matthew 28) and to teach His Words to others who will teach it to others. (II Timothy 2:2)
Have you ever wondered how you could make realistic improvements to your spiritual life? By participating in a D-Group, short for discipleship group, you will experience a closer walk with Christ, a better understanding of the Bible, and more meaningful relationships with others as you walk through this step-by-step process for spiritual growth.
These groups are carefully designed to help members grow spiritually in their walk with Christ. D-Groups go more in-depth, training you how to read, study and apply biblical principles in your life. The discipleship relationship is designed to be intimate and accountable. The handful of like-minded people in your group are encouraged to form community and accountability through the transparency of doing life together. Confidentiality and compassion are also parts of the bonds that are formed.
What does a D-group look like? You’ll be placed in a group of around 8-10 people. Members will read a few chapters of the Bible each week to discuss in the group setting. You will create 5 HEAR journal entries each week. HEAR entries are a way to be more intentional with your bible studies.
We would love for you to join us in our next round of discipleship. Please fill out the form below so that we can get you connected in a group.
The HEAR Method
The H.E.A.R. method promotes reading the Bible with a life-transforming purpose. Your purpose will be to read in order to understand and respond to God’s Word – instead of just checking off a box. Let’s talk more about how to do a HEAR Journal.
The acronym H.E.A.R. stands for Highlight, Explain, Apply, and Respond. Each of these four steps contributes to creating an atmosphere to hear God speak. To start, write the letter H at the top left-hand corner.
Highlight
This would be the verse from the passage that jumps out to you the most.
Write out the following: the name of the book, the passage of scripture, the chapter and verse numbers that especially speak to you.
Explain
In this stage you will explain what the text means.
By asking some simple questions, with the help of God’s Spirit, you can understand the meaning of a passage or verse. What is important is that you are engaging the text and wrestling with its meaning.
Apply
Challenge yourself to write about how the text applies to your life.
Answer a series of questions to uncover the significance of these verses to you personally: How can this help me? What does this mean today? What does this mean to me? What is God saying to me?
Respond
Write your response to the passage.
You may write out a call to action. You may indicate what you are going to do because of what you have learned. You may respond by writing out a prayer to God.
